What is Resistor?. (Definition and Ways of Working)

In many ways, we usually hear about resistor when we learn electronic. But do we know what is resistor?, and how resistor works?. When i am in high school, i learned a lot of resistors. But i don't know how to use resistor when i make some electronic circuit. It can be happened because i didn't know how resistor work. But now, i've learned about resistor in my university. So i'll show you the definition of resistor and how resistor works.

According to wikipedia, resistor is a passive two terminal electrical component that implements electrical resistance as a circuit element. So we can imagine about resistor okey. But, the definition is unclear because i take the definition from wikipedia. The definition is really abstract. We need more comprehension to understand the definition.

Resistor is one of components which is resisting current when the electron is flowing. The electron is like water in a river. And water's movement is like current when electron is flowing. But, the direction between electron and current is different. Current move otherwise from electron's movement. Now, we back to the topic. So, resistor makes a resistance and makes current value is fewer. It's like we press a pipe when water is flowing in the pipe. When we press the pipe in the middle, we gonna see that the water is fewer. It can be happened because the water was resisted by pressing on the middle of pipe. For more understanding the comprehension, we can see picture which is represented in bellow :

The picture has meaning that water and charge has same unit. I mean when water goes to the pipe, the value of the water is two unit. But, the pressing make water to be less. And when the water crossing that press, the value of the water changes to be one unit. It's same with principle of resistor. We can suppose the charge is value of the water, and current is water's movement.
